Undavalli Caves

July 13, 2026·1 min read

Carved into sandstone cliffs in the 4th–5th centuries CE, the Undavalli Caves are a spectacular example of rock-cut Gupta-era architecture dedicated to the Hindu Trimurti. The caves' most celebrated feature is a magnificent reclining statue of Lord Vishnu sculpted from a single block of granite, considered a masterpiece of ancient Indian artistry. The caves are approximately 10 km southwest of Guntur and are easily reachable by road.
